A collection of fourteen horror and science fiction stories.
Patrick Troughton takes on the role of the Doctor for this TV
serial in which his evil double plots to rule the world by
triggering a series of volcanic eruptions. The action is set in
near-future Australia, where the Doctor learns from an acquaintance
named Giles Kent (Bill Kerr) that he is a dead ringer for
Salamander (also Troughton), a high-profile figure who has devised
a means of storing solar energy that enables him to unleash natural
disasters at will. Through impersonating Salamander the Doctor
discovers more about his plot, but, with his enemy also capable of
impersonating him, the Doctor will face a stern test of his wits if
he is to restore peace.
This study documents the hitherto unrecorded contribution made by
West Indian women in the British armed forces during the World War
II and highlights the racism of government recruitment policies.
Based on original research and interviews, the book charts the
obstacles placed in the way of the recruitment of black women by a
very reluctant War Office. The authors uncover much documentary
evidence of British racism. But the women interviewed in this book
emerge as doughty fighters, as capable of taking on the War Office
as they were of joining the battle against Hitler.
In the years after the Second World War Colin Douglas-Fairhurst
turned the modest decorating business founded by his father into a
national leader in the field. FWA, as it became known, won
contracts to repaint many of Britain's most prominent buildings,
from Buckingham Palace to Waterloo Station and from Hammersmith
Bridge to the National Gallery. Along the way Colin raised a
family, saw the world, owned and drove more than 70 cars and had a
great deal of fun amid all the hard work. This is the story of his
life, his family and his business.
